Our Staff
 Our staff is comprised of caring, knowledgeable and outgoing individuals
each with their own personalities.  This allows for our clients to easily relate
to our staff and feel that they can always approach us with needs and
concerns.  Family and caregivers of our clients also feel that our staff is
approachable and willing to work with them to give their loved ones the best
possible care.
Patricia G. Hussey LPN-Nursing Supervisor
Pat is a native Detroiter who graduated from St. Anthony’s grade school and high
school.  Pat earned a nursing diploma from Shapero School of Practical Nursing of Sinai
Hospital in 1976.  She is married with one grown son.  Pat has known some of the
clients and staff for over 30 years.
Nancy Waldo LPN
Nancy graduated from Northwestern Michigan College and NMC LPN program and
attended Wayne State University.  Her past experiences include 16 years nursing at
William Beaumont Hospital, five of which were in the ICU, and private duty nursing for
several years.  Nancy says, “By far my experience working with the staff and clients at
Mary’s Children has been the most rewarding of my career.”   
Valerie Henzel- Cognitive Activity Director
Valerie worked here at Mary’s Children with your children and spouses for the last eight
years and has enjoyed every minute of it.  Valerie says, “You are all family to me!”  Val
has an Associates degree in behavioral science, is certified in massage therapy and is
a nursing assistant.  She also works in a hospital in the therapy department but says
she enjoys working at Mary’s Children more.  
Sister Ignatia Opara
Sister Ignatia has belonged to the order of daughters of Mary Mother of Mercy for 17
years.  She has been at Mary’s Children for six years.  Sister Ignatia graduated from the
School of Nursing Akure in Nigeria.  She has trained as a nursing assistant and a direct
care worker.  In addition to Mary’s Children, Sister Ignatia also works at St. Joseph
Manor Assisted Living and St. Clair Shore Group Home

Cathy Maslowski– Office Manager
Cathy has been at Mary’s Children since 2006.  Prior, Cathy was a high school consumer
resource teacher for 30 years.  She is married and has two grown daughters.
